After I participated in 12 handmade markets in 2022 I decided to write this post to tell you about 12 things I take to set up my booth so you can get an idea how can you set up your own art booth.
1. Tent
Also majority of art markets are indoors and run before Christmas, I also participated in outdoor markets as well. If you participate in outdoor art markets you will need to get a tent to protect you from sun, rain, wind or even a snow. This is my first year of art markets so I used my old tent which is not very pretty but did it’s job. I hope next year I will upgrade it. The best size of tent for markets is 10x10 feet (and it’s better to get the one with removable walls).
Most of the markets accept 6 feet table. Eventually you may need 2 tables to have more display.
3.Chair
Most of outdoor markets accept camping chairs, but some of indoors markets don’t accept camping chairs so you may need to get regular folding chair.
4. Table cloth
I like fitted table cloth which is easy to use and does not fly from the wind. I also like floor length table cloth so you can store your stuff under the table and it will cover it.
5. Display fixtures
I use 3 or 6 panels gridwalls to display my art. I also use greeting card holder stand to display small prints. I use clear acrylic stands to display medium size prints and basket for smallest prints. I also have a business card holder and acrylic stand with pricing and methods of payment.
Sometimes I use easels and coloring pencils as decoration
6. Products to sell
Don’t forget to bring your products. Start with few most remarkable pieces and add new on each market so you will offer more and more variety.
7. Packaging
Make sure you bring nice envelopes or bags to give it to customer to protect your art once it’s sold
Caesars, tape, ropes might be handy.
Bring some small change. I usually take around 10 5$ bills with me to give change.
I use big poster with my logo as signage for now but I want to upgrade to fabric banner instead.
I usually take tea in thermos, lunch and 2 snacks if market is longer then 4 hours.
I use square pay to accept payments from debit and credit cards. It is super easy to use and set up.
